Veřejná knihovna jako demokratický prostor
V roce 2014 byl v Norsku revidován zákon o veřejných knihovnách. Hlavní změnou oproti roku 1986 byl důraz na knihovny jako prostory, a to jak pro aktivní šíření literatury a znalostí, tak i zcela nový bod: „Veřejné knihovny mají být nezávislým místem setkávání a prostorem pro veřejné diskuse a debaty.“ Tím knihovny získaly rozšířenou roli v místní společnosti, ale také výzvy.

The public library as a democratic space
In 2014 Norway got a revised act on public libraries. The main change from 1986 was the emphasis of the libraries as arenas, both for active dissemination of literature and knowledge, and the brand new point: “Public libraries are to be an independent meeting place and arena for public discussions and debates.” This have given the libraries an expanded role in the local society, but also challenges.

Knihovny jsou součástí demokratické infrastruktury společnosti. Tím, že poskytují bezplatně informace a znalosti a jsou místem formálních i neformálních setkání mezi jednotlivci, tak knihovny a knihovníci přispívají k demokratické diskusi ve společnosti.
Jak by tato myšlenka měla ovlivnit činnost knihovníků? Programy? Akviziční politiku? Jak se setkáváme s patrony v naší každodenní práci? To bude tématem tohoto semináře, na kterém budou účastníci diskutovat na základě vlastních zkušeností a zkušeností místních komunit.
Workshop (14. 9.)
Libraries are a part of the democratic infrastructure in the society. By providing free information and knowledge and being an arena for the formal and informal meetings between individuals, the libraries and librarians contribute to the democratic discussion in the society. How should this idea influence the actions of the librarians? The programming? The acquisition policy? How we meet the patrons in our daily work? This will be the topic of this workshop, where the participants will discuss from their own experiences and local communities.
Vidar Lund is the president of the Norwegian Library Association, and a member of the Standing Committee of Management of Library Associations Section in IFLA.
When not president, he is the director of Levanger Public Library (IG: @levbib), a municipality with just above 20.000 inhabitants in the middle of Norway.
